5% of the proceeds from the evening will go directly to The Sharing Shelf of Westchester, an amazing non profit organization that provides clothing for children whose families are in financial distress across Westchester County.
As many of you know, I have been working for/with The GIrls Leadership Institute for a few years now. Teaching communication, friendship and confidence building skills to young girls aged eight to eighteen. I have been teaching workshops in Manhattan, Westchester and at non profit agencies in the county. That is where The Sharing Shelf comes in. The Sharing Shelf is an amazing organization that provides clothing, school supplies and other essentials to children whose families are in financial distress across Westchester county. So many of the clothes that are “dropped off” often don’t find their way to the children who are most in need. Often the clothes don’t fit right or aren’t in a wearable condition leading the girls to feel self conscious. This is not the case with The Sharing Shelf. Sharing Shelf recipients each receive a week’s worth of seasonally appropriate clothing matched into outfits according their sizing needs. In order to empower the girls even further, once a year The Sharing Shelf runs a pop-up teen shopping boutique where the girls in need are able to choose their own clothing, accessories, and shoes. More information about The Sharing Shelf will be available at the event.
